Festus Ezeli injury: Warriors big man out 6-9 months after knee surgery

The Golden State Warriors big man underwent surgery to help support his medial collateral ligament and posterior cruciate ligament.

USA TODAY Sports

Golden State Warriors big man Festus Ezeli underwent surgery to reinforce ligaments in his right knee and will miss a minimum of six to nine months, the team announced on Thursday. Ezeli sprained his right knee in the Warriors' final regular season game but continued to play, appearing in 12 playoffs outings.

Ezeli’s surgery on Wednesday in Los Angeles will help support his medial collateral ligament and posterior cruciate ligament.

Selected 30th in the 2012 draft, Ezeli posted averages of 2.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 14.4 minutes per game during his rookie campaign. He played in 78 regular-season games and started in half of Golden State’s 82-game schedule.

The timetable schedules the soonest return date for mid-December.

The absence of the young 6'11, 255-pound center means that Golden State will more heavily rely upon former first overall pick Andrew Bogut, who played in 44 total games in 2012-13 after finally shedding his lingering ankle troubles.
