Roy Hibbert swears, makes homophobic comment during press conference

Hibbert had a great game for the Pacers, but his postgame statements were undoubtedly a mistake.

Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert used his moment in the limelight Saturday after Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals to make a statement. Probably a costly one.

Asked during a press conference how it’s possible he finished 10th in Defensive Player of the Year voting despite playing so well, Hibbert told the gathered press: “Y’all motherf--ers don’t watch us play throughout the year to tell you the truth. So that’s fine. I’m going to be real with you, and I don’t care if I get fined. We play and we’re not on TV all of the time and reporters are the ones that are voting and it is what it is. And I don’t make it, that’s fine. I’m still going to do what I have to do.”

More troublesome was the comment he made later when discussing LeBron James. “Lebron was scoring in the post or getting to the paint cause he was stretching me out so much -- no homo.”

While the swearing may have cost him some money, it seems likely the homophobic remark will be met by some censure from the league.
