Nuggets offered first round pick for Doc Rivers, according to report

Before the Clippers and Celtics began negotiations for Rivers, the Denver Nuggets reportedly made a push.

The Denver Nuggets made a push to land Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers prior to moving onto other candidates.

According to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Nuggets offered a first round draft pick to bring Rivers to town approximately 10 days ago. At the time, the Celtics were not prepared to discuss letting Rivers go. Nuggets CEO Josh Kroenke and general manager Danny Ainge briefly discussed a deal, but nothing came of it.

Since the original deal was proposed, the Nuggets have narrowed down their coaching search to Lionel Hollins and Brian Shaw.

The Celtics, on the other hand, began negotiations with the Los Angeles Clippers in a trade that would reportedly send Rivers and Kevin Garnett to L.A. in exchange for a handful of young, valuable assets. Boston has balked on any recent offers, and it seems as if the deal is on life support.

Rivers currently has three years and $21 million remaining on his contract with Boston.
