Timberwolves decline Cavs offer for Kevin Love, according to report

The Cavs want a star forward to pair with Kyrie Irving, but it doesn’t look like it’ll be Kevin Love.

The Timberwolves declined the Cleveland Cavaliers' offer to trade the No. 1 pick in Thursday's NBA Draft, along with Tristan Thompson and Dion Waiters, to Minnesota for Kevin Love, ESPN's Andy Katz reported Tuesday.

New Timberwolves president Flip Saunders has no interest in moving Love, Katz said, and the Timberwolves are one of many without interest in taking the No. 1 pick off the Cavaliers' hands without a huge name available at the top of the draft board. Cleveland's impetus for the trade talks, despite liking both Thompson and Waiters, is the desire for a star forward to complement point guard Kyrie Irving.

If the Cavaliers hold on to the top pick, Katz said they’re expected to choose primarily between Nerlens Noel (scouting report) and Alex Len (scouting report), but Katz said the organization hasn’t ruled out Otto Porter (scouting report) or Ben McLemore (scouting report).

Cleveland hopes to have arrived at a decision by Thursday morning, Katz said.
