NBA trade rumors: Cleveland Cavaliers offer Pelicans No. 1 pick for Greivis Vasquez, No. 6 and 2014 first-rounder

According to a report, the Cavs offered the first pick in the 2013 NBA Draft to New Orleans, but it’s unknown whether the Pelicans would be interested.

USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Cavaliers reportedly have offered the New Orleans Pelicans the first pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, and in return they would like to receive guard Greivis Vasquez along with the No. 6 pick and a 2014 first-rounder, according to HoopsWorld.com's Alex Kennedy.

Kennedy had not heard whether the Pelicans would be remotely interested in the offer, but the rumor makes sense from the Cavs’ perspective, especially if they are indeed looking to get rid of the first pick. After all, there has been discussion about whether Nerlens Noel or Alex Len should go No. 1.

Dropping to the sixth pick in a relatively even draft keeps the Cavaliers active in rebuilding the roster this year. Acquiring another likely lottery pick in the loaded 2014 draft is a no-brainer, and trading for one of the NBA’s most improved players in Vasquez fills a need at point guard with a relatively young player.

Now it’s a matter of whether New Orleans will even consider Cleveland’s proposed trade. The Pelicans are in essentially the same spot as the Cavaliers, and it’s questionable if giving up a draft pick and a starting guard simply to move up in a relatively unappealing lottery class is worth it.
