NBA free agency 2013: Carl Landry opts out of contract with Warriors

As expected, Warriors power forward Carl Landry has declined his $4 million player option and will become an unrestricted free agent.

USA TODAY Sports

The Golden State Warriors announced Wednesday that power forward Carl Landry has declined the player option on the second year of his deal and will become an unrestricted free agent. Landry was slated to make $4 million next season, but he'll be looking for a bigger pay day after a strong year in Golden State.

Landry proved to be a reliable option off the bench all season long for the Warriors, playing in 81 games and averaging 10.8 points and 6 rebounds while shooting 54.0 percent. In the playoffs, Landry averaged 11.8 points and 5.2 rebounds, and he even got three starts due to the hip injury to starting power forward David Lee.

Landry could still return to Golden State, but it could be difficult due to the team’s cap situation. The Warriors are already flirting with the luxury tax without Landry, so he will likely get a more lucrative offer elsewhere.
