NBA trade rumors: Celtics weigh options in Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce talks with Nets

The Boston Celtics are speaking with the Brooklyn Nets about a trade involving Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, which could expand to include more players.

By all accounts, the Boston Celtics are shopping Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, but the Brooklyn Nets aren't the only suitors interested in acquiring the aging All-Stars. The Boston Globe's Gary Washburn reports that the discussions between the Celtics and Nets are very real, but Boston is also taking calls from other teams.

Things between the Celtics and Nets also have a ways to go. Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski initially reported that Pierce and Garnett could be swapped for a Brooklyn package of Gerald Wallace, Tornike Shengelia, Kris Humphries and three first-round picks in exchange for the two Boston stars.

The Celtics are now talking about including either Jason Terry or Courtney Lee in the deal, Wojnarowski said. Terry and Lee struggled last season after signing similar $5.2 million contracts, which makes one of the two -- if not both -- expendable.

With coach Doc Rivers off to Los Angeles, the rebuilding project in Boston is underway, so it’s no surprise the Celtics are working to unload Pierce and Garnett. To receive three future draft picks along with contracts that make the trade work under the collective bargaining agreement seems like a decent return.

As of now, however, Boston general manager Danny Ainge might only be in the early stages of gauging the value of his players.
