NBA Free Agency 2013: Pelicans reportedly ‘strongly interested’ in Andre Iguodala

The New Orleans Pelicans are interested in picking up the former teammate of newly-acquired point guard Jrue Holiday.

The New Orleans Pelicans are interested in chasing after Denver Nuggets free agent Andre Iguodala, according to Yahoo! Sports' Marc J. Spears.

Iguodala was traded to the Nuggets from the Philadelphia 76ers last offseason in the three-team deal that sent Dwight Howard to the Lakers and Andrew Bynum to the Sixers. In New Orleans, he would be joining former 76ers teammate Jrue Holiday, who was acquired Thursday by the Pelicans in a draft night deal that sent Nerlens Noel to Philadelphia.

With the Pelicans, Iguodala would also join shooting guard Eric Gordon and 2012 first overall draft pick Anthony Davis.

Iguodala averaged 13 points, 5.4 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game for the Nuggets last season. He scored 18 points per game in six playoff games but Denver eventually fell to the Golden State Warriors in the first round. The offseason has already been a trying one for the Nuggets, who fired coach George Karl after he won the NBA Coach of the Year award and then lost two of its top front office executives in Masai Ujiri and Pete D'Alessandro.

The changes in Denver make Iguodala’s return to the Mile High City less likely.

One of the best defenders in the NBA, Iguodala will be among the top free agents this summer.
