O.J. Mayo will be a hot commodity across the NBA come Monday's signing period but his current team, the Dallas Mavericks, don't appear to be one of the many teams prepping to chase after him when he becomes a free agent. The Utah Jazz, Milwaukee Bucks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Los Angeles Clippers, Portland Trail Blazers, Charlotte Bobcats and Chicago Bulls all have interest in the 25-year-old shooting guard, according to USA Today's Sam Amick.

Mayo opted out of his contract with the Mavs that had a $4.3 million player option for next season. Dallas is keeping its financial situation open as it prepares to target Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard in free agency.

Averaging 15.3 points, 4.4 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game in his single season with the Mavericks, Mayo struggled to adjust when aging forward Dirk Nowitzki returned to something like his old self after dealing with injuries during the first half of the year. Mayo's efficiency dipped as the ball was taken out of his hands, and he averaged just 10.9 points per game after the All-Star break. That was a seven-point drop in scoring average compared to before the break, and it had to do with Mayo's 46.3 percent shooting falling to 41.7 in the final 30 games of the season.
Still, Mayo is one of the better shooting guards on the free agent market, perhaps the best bargain behind Monta Ellis and Tyreke Evans.
He’s a decent-enough playmaker, a shot creator and also has proven defensive chops. All of that would fit with any NBA team, even if Mayo struggles as the second or third option.
