NBA 2K14 was announced Thursday, and the Miami Heat's LeBron James will be featured on the game's cover.

The game will be launched on PlayStation3, Xbox 360 and Windows on Oct. 1, Polygon’s Samit Sarkar said. It will be a launch title with Sony’s new PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s new Xbox One. Both consoles are scheduled to launch in late 2013.

A “King James Bonus Pack” will be available to pre-order for PS3 and Xbox 360, though Polygon said the feature set for the bonus release has not yet been disclosed.

James was an instant phenomenon as a rookie out of high school in 2003, but in the 10 years since, NBA 2K14 will be his first video game cover. NBA 2K11's cover featured Michael Jordan, and 2K12 featured Jordan, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson.

Last year's cover featured Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin, Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant and Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose.
