Corey Brewer to join Kevin Martin and T-Wolves, Luke Ridnour off to Bucks

The Minnesota Timberwolves will add two perimeter scorers and trade Luke Ridnour to the Milwaukee Bucks in order to open up cap space.

USA TODAY Sports

Corey Brewer will join the Minnesota Timberwolves as a free agent, signing a three-year, $15 million contract following a series of complicated transactions that clear enough cap space for Minnesota to make its offer, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

Prior to signing Brewer, the Timberwolves will ship guard Luke Ridnour to the Milwaukee Bucks in order to open up enough cap room. That will also enable the Timberwolves to execute a sign-and-trade with Oklahoma City, allowing them to sign Kevin Martin for four years and $30 million. The Thunder will get a trade exception in return.

On the court, the Timberwolves suddenly have a good bit of firepower. Brewer scored 12.1 points per game last season while Martin averaged 14 points and hit 42.6 percent of his three-pointers in 2012-13. Moving Ridnour hurts little, as Minnesota is still deep with point guards Ricky Rubio, Alexey Shved and J.J. Barea -- though Barea could be on the trading block.
