The Dallas Mavericks and Devin Harris had previously agreed to a three-year, $9 million contact in free agency, but now both sides are calling off the deal because of a toe injury to the point guard, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

Harris' toe was an issue throughout last season as a member of the Atlanta Hawks, and it was a big reason he only played only 58 games. It's the third major piece of news to come from the Mavericks backcourt on Friday. Earlier in the day, Dallas inked a three-year deal with guard Monta Ellis. It was later reported rookie guard Shane Larkin broke his ankle in a Summer League practice and could miss the next two to three months.
Harris spent the first four seasons of his career in Dallas before going to become an All-Star for the New Jersey Nets. He averaged 9.9 points and 3.4 assists per game last season.
