Aaron Brooks has re-signed with the Houston Rockets on a one-year deal that marks his third stint with the franchise, the 28-year-old guard announced via Twitter on Thursday night. Brooks, a former first-round pick of the Rockets in 2007, had drawn interest as a free agent from the New York Knicks and several other teams, but he told Mark Berman of FOX 26 in Houston that comfort was a factor in his decision.

Brooks has bounced around the league in the past few seasons, and he cited stability for his children as a motivating factor for signing with the Rockets. Team blog The Dream Shake has a refresher course on Brooks’ circuitous journey back to Houston:
Brooks, as you may remember, first took over as starting PG after the Rockets flipped Von Wafer for Kyle Lowry to the Orlando Magic. He's had more than his share of poingiant [sic] moments with Houston but eventually fell out of favor after an injury-addled 2010-11 season and was traded to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for Goran Dragic. After some time in China he returned to the NBA with the Sacramento Kings where he played in 46 games before the he was waived in March. Later that month he returned to Houston before he was waived, once again, on June 30, along with Carlos Delfino.
The team made a huge free agent splash when it added Dwight Howard to the roster, and now the Rockets will be expected to contend for a championship. Jeremy Lin and Patrick Beverley are currently ahead of Brooks on the depth chart, but the backcourt situation could change for Houston as the team continues to shape the roster to best fit Howard's strengths.
