Pelicans moving closer to making an offer for Greg Oden
Earlier this week, reports surfaced about the New Orleans Pelicans making an offer for center Greg Oden. According to those reports, the two-year deal would be for about $3 million per year, which would work nicely with the remaining space on the Pelicans’ salary cap. John Reid reported that the Pelicans have not yet made an offer to Oden, but the team remains interested and in negotiations with Oden and his agent, Mike Conley, Sr. The two sides expected to meet on Friday evening in Indianapolis after Oden returned home from spending time in Las Vegas earlier in the week.
Lakers give Shawne Williams a training camp opportunity
Former first-round draft pick Shawne Williams will get another opportunity to play in the NBA thanks to a training camp invite from the Los Angeles Lakers. Williams did not play in the league last year, but had his best season as a pro with the New York Knicks while playing under current Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni. Off-court issues hampered his early career after being drafted by the Indiana Pacers, but the versatile scoring forward may be a good fit with D'Antoni once again.
Rockets a favorite to land Marcus Camby
According to reports, center Marcus Camby may have the Houston Rockets at the top of his list now that he is on the free agent market. Camby reached a buyout agreement with the Toronto Raptors earlier this week which will make him a free agent once he clears waivers on Sunday.
Camby's agent, Rick Kaplan, told Houston reporter Mark Berman that he and his client will focus on Houston once Camby clears waivers based on his previous positive experience with the Rockets. Obviously a reserve role behind Dwight Howard and a potential run at an NBA championship are also strong attractions for Camby to consider.
