The San Antonio Spurs had moved on from chasing backup guard Gary Neal several weeks ago, and on Tuesday ESPN's Marc Stein and NBA.com's David Aldridge both reported that the team will rescind its $1.1 million qualifying offer.

Making Neal an unrestricted free agent should allow him to more easily sign with a new team, taking away any chance the Spurs decide to match an offer.
Neal showed his value as instant offense off the bench this past season, which was highlighted by his 24-point outburst in Game 3 of the NBA Finals. In that regard, Neal likely will see a pay raise.

Neal averaged 9.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game in 2012-13, his third NBA season. He had career-low shooting numbers of 41 percent overall and 36 percent from three-point range, though he shot nearly 42 percent from deep in his first two NBA seasons.
San Antonio had moved on from Neal and quickly agreed to sign swingman Marco Belinelli on July 4. He and the development of young guards Cory Joseph and Nando de Colo made Neal expendable.
