Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce return to Boston for preseason game on Oct. 23

The Brooklyn Nets and former Boston stars Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce will play the Celtics twice in the preseason.

The Boston Celtics will host former franchise cornerstones Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett on Oct. 23 when they return as members of the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets announced their preseason schedule on Thursday, which includes two games against both the Celtics and Miami Heat.

Boston and Brooklyn meet on Oct. 15 at Barclays Center, but the emotions will surely be heightened when Garnett and Pierce return to the T.D. Garden a week later for the first time as members of the Nets. Though it would seem like poor planning by the NBA for a dramatic moment to come in the preseason, Nets general manager Billy King tweeted at Sports Illustrated reporter Chris Mannix that the preseason games were scheduled a year ago, before Pierce and Garnett were traded to Brooklyn.

Brooklyn, which now sports the NBA’s largest payroll, will also play the Miami Heat at home on Oct. 17 and in South Beach on Oct. 25.

Here’s the Nets’ entire preseason schedule.
