The Golden State Warriors' proposed San Francisco arena project could cost $1 billion and the price is only rising. Warriors president Rick Welts told KCBS there are various hurdles to overcome simply because of the complexity of the location.
Warriors’ proposed San Francisco arena cost could surpass $1 billion
The Golden State Warriors are expected to hit several hurdles on their way to building a new waterfront arena.

Not only is it pricy waterfront property that overlooks the bay, but the arena will sit on multiple piers, Piers 30 and 32.
“The piers were built in a series of stages. They were not all built at the same time, so there’s a lot different components that make up the 13-acre site,” he said.
Welts told KCBS this week that it will cost $120 million simply to fix up the piers in order for an arena to be built.
Furthermore, the arena is expected to hit opposition from environmentalists and locals worried about the noise the arena will create once fans begin attending games. Being 12 stories tall, the arena will change part of the skyline, as well.
The Warriors have said they’d like to have the arena ready for the 2017-18 season and Welts maintained to the local news station that the complexities haven’t changed the timeline.
