The free agent, who was with the Cleveland Cavaliers last season, is facing a second-degree battery charge for reasons unknown.

New Orleans law says that second-degree battery is defined as "an assault in which the offender 'intentionally inflicts serious bodily injury,' " according to WDSU.com. Sources told the local station that the incident occurred earlier in July.

Gibson is an unsigned free agent who has spent his entire NBA career with the Cavs. The 27-year-old posted the lowest regular-season totals in 2012-13 since his rookie year as Cleveland opted to play younger players ahead of him. The drafting of Dion Waiters not only cut into Gibson's minutes but also the number of games he appeared in. Injuries also sidelined Gibson, who played in just 46 games last season.
Gibson holds career averages of 7.8 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
