NBA free agency rumors: Gary Neal likely won’t be back with Spurs, per report

The San Antonio Spurs aren’t expected to re-sign Gary Neal and instead agreed to add swingman Marco Belinelli on Thursday.

It's unlikely the San Antonio Spurs will bring back reserve guard Gary Neal, according to ESPN's Marc Stein, and with that they focused on reaching an agreement with free agent gunner Marco Belinelli on Thursday. Stein surmises that Neal is fielding offers from other teams that are out of the Spurs' price range.

Neal is a restricted free agent, meaning San Antonio could match any offer sent his way. The Spurs extended a qualifying offer to Neal worth $1.1 million at the beginning of the free agency moratorium.

It's not surprising Neal is now worth more. He proved his value as a streak shooter whose light trigger became bearable -- and dangerous -- when his shot was on. An example of that came via a 24-point performance in Game 3 of the 2013 NBA Finals, which included six three-pointers by the third-year point guard.

Neal averaged 9.5 points in the regular season and is a 40 percent three-point shooter over the course of his three-year career.
