NBA free agency rumors: Andrew Bynum to visit Cavs

The Cleveland Cavaliers have the money to offer and have joined the Dallas Mavericks as suitors for the free agent center.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are considering signing free agent Andrew Bynum, and the former Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers center will visit with the team on Monday, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

The Cavs join the Dallas Mavericks as the two main suitors for the big man, who didn't touch the court last season because of knee problems.

Fear the Sword: More on the Cavs' offseason

Cleveland owns about $15 million in cap space and could offer Bynum one of the biggest annual contracts, but the Cavs wouldn’t want to give the center more than a one-year deal. That would give them time to evaluate him while keeping their flexibility for the 2014 offseason and its impressive list of free agents.

While the Cavs aren’t completely sold on signing Bynum, Stein reports that the willingness by the center to take a one-year contract would be key in Cleveland moving forward with an offer.

Meanwhile, Dallas has reportedly been extremely proactive in researching Bynum's knee injuries. The Mavericks want a counter to the Houston Rockets' agreement to join forces with center Dwight Howard, and Bynum, the man traded as part of the Howard deal last summer, is just that.
