Hedo Turkoglu, Magic working on contract buyout

The rebuilding Orlando Magic are looking to buy out the rest of veteran forward Hedo Turkoglu’s hefty contract.

The youth movement in Orlando that includes small forwards Tobias Harris and Moe Harkless has made veteran Hedo Turkoglu expendable, and with his contract partially-guaranteed in its final year, the Magic are working on a deal to buy him out. Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the team is making progress on the move, and that half of Turkoglu's 2013-14 salary worth $12 million is guaranteed.

Orlando Pinstriped Post: More on the Magic's offseason

Turkoglu has spent most of his NBA career with the Magic. After growing into a contributor with the Sacramento Kings, he joined the Magic in 2004 and soon became a playmaking forward alongside Dwight Howard, helping Orlando to the 2009 NBA Finals.

After that run, however, Turkoglu hit a rocky next few years of his career and signed his current contract with the Toronto Raptors. He was traded to the Phoenix Suns after a single season with Toronto and didn't last a full season before being traded back to the Magic in a trade that included current Phoenix center Marcin Gortat.

Last season, Turkoglu was suspended 20 games for violating the NBA’s anti-doping policy.
