FIBA Africa 2013 schedule: Nigeria looking to advance to semifinals

Nigeria’s squad features four of the seven players with NBA experience in the FIBA Africa Championship tournament’s quarterfinals.

The 2013 FIBA Africa Championship tournament enters the quarterfinal stage on Wednesday. All 16 teams will be in action, however, as the teams eliminated in the first round earlier this week are now playing for places nine though 16 for posterity’s sake.

Wednesday's most relevant game will take place between Nigeria and Senegal, considering there will be six players with NBA experience taking the court. Nigeria should advance, however, as their NBAers -- Al-Farouq Aminu, Ike Diogu, Gani Lawal and Ben Uzoh -- have been much more effective than Senegal's big man duo of Saer Sene and Hamady Ndiaye.

The three other quarterfinals matchups will be undefeated Angola vs. Morocco, Cape Verde vs. Egypt and the hosting Ivory Coast squad taking on Luc Richard Mbah a Moute’s Cameroonian squad. Egypt is the most surprising participant in the final eight after it upset Tunisia to advance to the quarterfinals.

The loser’s bracket will begin with Mali vs. Burkina Faso followed by Congo vs. Central African Republic and former tournament-favorite Tunisia taking on Rwanda.
