Mike Budenholzer was charged with a DUI and a tail light violation after being arrested early Thursday morning, according to a report from Atlanta news station WSBTV. The new head coach of the Atlanta Hawks was released from the Atlanta City Jail after posting $1,524 for bond at 3:45 a.m. ET.

New Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer was arrested early Thursday morning for DUI. He was released from jail at 3:45 Thursday morning after posting bail.

Budenholzer was pulled over for having no tail lights, according to the news station, but the arresting officer decided to further investigate after allegedly detecting an odor of alcohol. The city’s new head coach then failed a field sobriety test, but refused to take a breathalyzer test and was subsequently booked into jail.
The Hawks released a statement to the station’s Zach Klein on Thursday morning, reportedly saying that “Bud made us aware of the situation last night. We are in the process of gathering more information and will have further comment at the appropriate time.”
Budenholzer was hired to replace Larry Drew on the Hawks bench this year after spending the majority of his coaching career under Gregg Popovich with the San Antonio Spurs. The 44-year-old’s currently preparing for his first season as a professional coach after spending 17 years with last year’s NBA Finals runner-ups.
The head coach is likely facing a two-game suspension if he's found guilty for the DUI offense as both new Brooklyn Nets head coach Jason Kidd and former Sacramento Kings head coach Eric Musselman were giving that suspension in similar circumstances.
