NBA short-sleeve jerseys to see increased use in 2013-14

Five teams will make the adidas sleeved jerseys an alternate uniform option and as a majority of NBA teams will wear the shirts at least once.

The NBA will increase the presence of the adidas short-sleeve jerseys in the 2013-14 season. HoopsWorld’s Steve Kyler confirmed ESPN’s report from June that five teams will add sleeved jerseys as alternate dress options. Kyler also added that 20 NBA squads will wear a short-sleeve uniform at least once.

The majority of the one-time showings will occur on either Christmas Day or St. Patrick’s Day, according to Kyler.

The Golden State Warriors were the first team to wear the adidas short-sleeved jerseys. They donned the new look three times last season, and a number of teams wore sleeved uniforms during the 2013 NBA Summer League.

The look has been hit or miss across the league. Several players, including Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert and Phoenix Suns guard Kendall Marshall, have been critical of the jerseys. Hibbert issued a "keep away" message on Twitter when he heard news of the jerseys hitting Indianapolis, and Marshall begged for the Suns to avoid the trend -- they didn't and wore sleeved uniforms in the Las Vegas Summer League.

Even Warriors point guard Stephen Curry called the uniforms "ugly" after wearing them this season.

Last year, adidas also introduced an undershirt sleeved jersey to go with its special camouflage-inspired jerseys for select NCAA schools.
