NBA free agency: Pistons ink second-round pick Peyton Siva

The Detroit Pistons signed 56th overall pick Peyton Siva on Monday.

USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Pistons signed second-round draft pick Peyton Siva to a contract Monday and added to an already deep crew of point guards. ESPN's Jeff Goodman was told by Siva's former coach, Rick Pitino, that the Pistons agreed to keep the 6'0, 185-pound guard in the States.

Siva confirmed the news by posting an Instagram picture of the signing.

The trade that sent Brandon Knight, Slava Kravtsov and Khris Middleton to the Milwaukee Bucks for point guard Brandon Jennings opened up more roster spots in Detroit. By signing Siva, the Pistons' 56th overall pick, there's still one more available spot on the roster.

He joins Jennings, Chauncey Billups and Will Bynum in a crowded backcourt.

Siva led the Louisville Cardinals to the national title in 2013 and averaged 10 points and 5.7 assists per game.

For the Pistons' summer league team, he was one of the most prolific assist men in Orlando. Siva averaged 7.8 points and six assists per game. That was on par with 76ers first-round pick Michael Carter-Williams' 6.8 assists per game, Phil Pressey's 6.6 assists per game that earned him a spot on the Boston Celtics' roster and Dwight Buycks' six assists per game that likewise earned him a contract with the Toronto Raptors.
