NBA not close to implementing HGH testing policies, according to report

The NBA and its players’ union have been discussing the implementation of HGH testing but are far from agreeing on a policy.

For a long while now, NBA commissioner David Stern has been open about wanting HGH testing to become a part of the league by the beginning of the 2013-14 season. According to CBS Sports’ Ken Berger, that seems very unlikely.

Berger reports that the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association are far apart in their negotiations regarding testing for human growth hormone. A source told CBS that, “Nothing is anywhere near being agreed to.”

In the 2011 collective bargaining agreement, the league and the union began discussing a framework to test for HGH. The two sides created a panel to research the issue, including finding baseline testing levels, which testing procedures are available and the reliability of those procedures.

The NBPA has had a tumultuous year, but the association's interim executive director, Ron Klempner, has told CBS that the issues have not caused a delay in any of the union's proceedings. This year, the NBPA ousted its executive director, Billy Hunter, following a scandal regarding the business he conducted in charge. It has also elected a new president, Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul.
