Lamar Odom checks into rehab for drug and alcohol abuse, per report

The NBA’s former Sixth Man of the Year is reportedly looking to get help for his alleged drug and alcohol issues.

Lamar Odom has apparently decided to get the help he needs as he's reportedly checked himself into drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, according to People Magazine. The current NBA free agent has made many headlines over the offseason, most recently for being arrested for a DUI last week.

People’s sources told the magazine that Odom checked into the rehab facility because “he realized he needs help.”

Odom’s had a very tough career off the court, as recently documented in a story by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, and reports of him allegedly having an addiction to hardcore drugs have also apparently caused problems in his personal life.

The alleged drug issues have likely effected his ability to get another NBA contract this summer as well. The 6’10 forward will turn 34 this year and hasn’t looked like the man that won the league’s Sixth Man of the Year award in 2011, but there’s little doubt that he’d be on an NBA roster if these alleged problems weren’t currently clouding his future.
