Deron Williams is expected to play against the New York Knicks when the Brooklyn Nets visit Madison Square Garden on Monday, reports Mitchell Abramson of the New York Daily News. Williams missed five games with his latest ankle injuries and last played Jan. 4.

Ankle injuries have sidelined Deron Williams through the season but he plans on playing Monday when the Nets face the Knicks.

His latest setback was a left ankle sprain that forced him to wear a walking boot as he recovered. He also had cortisone injections in each of his ankles as well as platelet-rich plasma procedures. Williams’ ankles have been problematic since 2012 and his health has been a constant issue this season. He’s already missed 16 games, equivalent to the amount of wins the team has this year.

Shaun Livingston has filled in as the team's starting point guard in Williams' absence. The team also acquired second-year point guard Marquis Teague from the Chicago Bulls for additional backcourt depth. Brooklyn's game against the Knicks on Monday is the first half of a back-to-back. The team does not play until Friday following that set of games, giving the Nets and Williams an opportunity to monitor his progress and rest his ankle once he returns.
