Steve Nash injury: Targeting early February return, still dealing with nerve issues

Steve Nash is heading to Vancouver to work on his back and is targeting an early-February return.

Steve Nash is targeting a return in the first week of February after the Los Angeles Lakers complete their annual "Grammy Trip," reports Dave McMenamin of ESPN. Nash has been out of the Lakers lineup since Nov. 10, traveling to Vancouver to meet with his personal therapist as he battles nerve issues in his back. Nash did not detail progress with his back and said things are still "super speculative."

“It’s all super speculative at this point because it’s such a weird, tricky dimension when you’re talking about this nerve issue,” Nash warned, however.

Nash played in just six games this season prior to needing time away. LA goes on a seven-game road trip beginning on Jan. 7 and ending Jan. 26. It follows that up with two home games, but goes on another three-game road trip right after. The Lakers begins a long homestand on Feb. 11, however, and doesn’t play on the road again until Feb. 25, also squeezing in the All-Star break during their stay in Los Angeles.

The Lakers point guard depth has been depleted with Jordan Farmar suffering a second hamstring tear, Steve Blake still recovering from a torn ligament in his elbow and Kobe Bryant, who filled in at starting point guard, out with a knee fracture. Kendall Marshall will start for the Lakers after the team signed him out of the D-League just two weeks ago.
