Chris Paul injury: Clippers point guard targeting early February return

The Clippers superstar point is ready to return soon.

The Los Angeles Clippers have been without Chris Paul since Jan. 3 and the superstar point guard is targeting a return in early February. Paul could return on Feb. 7 vs. the Toronto Raptors or Feb. 9 vs. the Philadelphia 76ers, reports Dan Woike of the OC Register.

Paul was expected to miss three-to-six weeks with a sprained right shoulder. The injury did not require surgery and his “targeted” return dates are in line with the initial timetable.

The Clippers have gone 10-2 without Paul, including two four-game win streaks and a six-game road trip. Blake Griffin has stepped up in Paul's absence, averaging 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists over the last 14 games. Six of the Clippers' next seven games are in Los Angeles. The team travels to Denver on Feb. 5.

Paul was also named a reserve on the Western Conference All-Star team, averaging 19.6 points and 11.2 assists in his first 34 games under head coach Doc Rivers.
