Los Angeles Clippers head coach and senior vice president of basketball operations Doc Rivers shot down trade rumors involving Blake Griffin being sent to the New York Knicks for Carmelo Anthony, calling the report "stupid" and "crap" prior to the Clippers' game against the San Antonio Spurs, reports Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News.

The Knicks and Clippers were rumored to have separately discussed swapping the two stars but had not contacted one another to open negotiations.

The Clippers reportedly ended their internal discussions leaning towards keeping Griffin, echoing the sentiments of Rivers, who dismissed the rumor. Los Angeles is in a tight spot currently, however, with Chris Paul expected to miss three to five weeks with a sprained right shoulder.

New York has been unable to work out a contract extension with Anthony, putting pressure on the front office to consider their other options. Anthony can opt out of the final year of his contract with the Knicks and become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
