Former NBA All-Star Chris Webber has joined a potential ownership group interested in purchasing the Atlanta Hawks, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. The group has already sent a letter to the NBA signaling its level of interest, and on Thursday, Webber officially announced his involvement on his official Twitter account.
Chris Webber leads group interested in purchasing Atlanta Hawks
One of the groups interested in purchasing the Atlanta Hawks includes a former NBA All-Star.

— Chris Webber (@realchriswebber) October 16, 2014 The Hawks are in the process of a possible sale after the controversy involving an email sent by majority owner Bruce Levenson. A subsequent revelation of offensive comments made by general manager Danny Ferry, who remains with the team, only worsened the situation.
Now there are "several prominent groups with interest in buying the Hawks," according to Wojnarowski, but only one of them boasts the presence of a former NBA All-Star (at least as far as we know). While Webber won't be a major investor financially -- Woj calls his investment "modest" -- the former Sacramento Kings star would become the public face of the group and a "prominent figure on the basketball side" for the franchise.
According to Peachtree Hoops, Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed said in the past that the goal was to have new Hawks ownership in place by the end of the year. As we saw with the Steve Ballmer purchase of the Clippers, things can move quickly once all the parties are in place.
Webber, 41, played 15 NBA seasons with the Kings, Washington Wizards, Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers and Detroit Pistons. He's currently working as an analyst for NBA TV and Turner Sports, which is based out of Atlanta.
