T’Wolves guard Kevin Martin out 6-to-8 weeks after wrist surgery

Two nights after Kevin martin dropped 37 points, the team announced he will be sidelined.

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Kevin Martin will be out for an indefinite amount of time after a fracture was found in his right wrist, according to Yahoo! Sports' Marc J. Spears.

UPDATE: Martin has undergone surgery and will be out six-to-eight weeks:

Martin scored 37 points on Wednesday as the T'Wolves dropped the New York Knicks 115-99, and a team report indicated Martin did most of that damage with the injury. Martin injured himself in the first quarter of the win, reports the Star Tribune's Jerry Zgoda.

Averaging 20.4 points per game this season, Martin had been on a tear from beyond the three-point stripe. He is seventh in the NBA shooting at a 48.1-percent clip from deep while taking six attempts per game.

Minnesota's youth movement will have even more playing time for coach Flip Saunders in the wake of Martin's injury. Furthermore, the loss makes the trade rumors surrounding swingman Corey Brewer all the more interesting. ESPN's Marc Stein reported that both the Houston Rockets and Cleveland Cavaliers are potential landing spots for the veteran, but the Timberwolves may hold off on trading Brewer if they want to stay afloat in the deep Western Conference. Saunders told the AP earlier on Friday that Brewer was "too valuable to move."

From the opposite perspective, the T'Wolves could potentially get more aggressive in trying to trade Brewer. That would put all the onus on youngsters like Shabazz Muhammad and first overall pick Andrew Wiggins, speeding up their development and likely pushing Minnesota up the lottery ladder looking toward next season's draft.
