No timetable for Dwight Howard to return from his knee injury

The Rockets center will miss his second straight game, and his return is still in question.

Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard's strained right knee will cause him to miss Houston's game on Saturday. Rockets head coach Kevin McHale said there is currently no timetable for when Howard will return, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN.

Howard was a late scratch on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Lakers with the knee injury. He was initially listed as doubtful for the game on Saturday against the Dallas Mavericks, before eventually being upgraded to questionable. According to Mark Berman, Howard received a platelet rich plasma injection in the knee to help him return. The fact that he's going to miss the game against Dallas isn't overly surprising, but McHale saying there is no timetable for Howard's return is troublesome.

The Rockets will continue their current homestand next week, hosting the New York Knicks on Monday. Houston will play Sacramento on Wednesday before a back-to-back against the Los Angeles Clippers and Milwaukee Bucks on Friday and Saturday.

The 28-year-old Howard is second on the team in scoring, averaging 18.8 points per game. He leads the Rockets in rebounding (11.3 per game) and blocks (2.3). Tarik Black is expected to step into the starting lineup while Howard is out, with Kostas Papanikolaou also playing more minutes.
