The longest running trade rumor in the NBA continues to twist in the wind as Rajon Rondo's free agency creeps close. The Boston Celtics are showing a "renewed willingness" to deal Rondo, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. You may remember that similar reports have been circulating for some time.

No player has survived more trade rumors unscathed than Rondo, Boston's 28-year-old enigma of a star guard. The speculation only became more rampant when the Celtics drafted Oklahoma State point guard Marcus Smart with the No. 6 overall pick this past summer.
Wojnarowski cites a source who says Boston’s asking price is “pretty high, probably higher than most want to pay.” Stop me if you’ve heard this one before.
Rondo is finally back to the eccentric playmaker he was before tearing his ACL in 2012. In 21 games this season, Rondo is averaging eight points, 10.6 assists and 7.5 rebounds per game on 40 percent shooting from the floor. He also leads the NBA in triple-doubles this season with three.
In that sense, Rondo is truly back to his old self. He isn’t a big-time scoring threat a team like Boston might appreciate, but his wholly unique game has a way of making him one of the most galvanizing players in the NBA. From his days as Boston’s fourth wheel on a championship team to his current status as the last man standing in a rebuilding project, Rondo continues to seem unconcerned with all the chatter around him. At this point, he’s used to it.
