NBA trade rumor: Pelicans want to trade Eric Gordon or Tyreke Evans

The Pelicans are look at trade possibilities for either of their highly-paid guards.

The New Orleans Pelicans are "working hard" to trade either Tyreke Evans or Eric Gordon before the Feb. 20 deadline, reports Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated. The Pelicans acquired Gordon in the package that sent Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Clippers and signed Evans to a four-year, $44 million contract last summer.

The Pelicans have struggled this season, however, putting together a 23-29 record leading up to the All-Star break. Evans has struggled in his first season away from the Sacramento Kings, averaging 12.6 points on 41 percent shooting. His three-point shooting has been terrible, shooting just 14 percent from beyond the arc.

Gordon has been another question mark for the franchise. He's missed significant time in his first two years of the franchise and is currently averaging a career-low 15.8 points per game. In 2012 he signed a maximum-contract offer sheet with the Phoenix Suns as a restricted free agent but the Pelicans matched the contract.

The Pelicans have been tweaking their roster since trading Paul and going under new ownership. The team has begun building around 2012 first-overall pick Anthony Davis, but injuries have stalled their season. It's unclear what the asking price for either Gordon or Evans could be, and both players come with significant salary implications.
