The Brooklyn Nets have signed veteran big man Jason Collins to a 10-day-contract. The Nets have been seeking frontcourt help after trading Reggie Evans to the Sacramento Kings and likely missing on signing Glen Davis once he clears waivers.

The Nets announced the signing of Jason Collins to shore up their frontcourt depth, which makes him the first active openly gay player in the league’s history.

Collins, 35, has not played in the NBA during the 2013-2014 season. He became the first openly gay active NBA player when he came out in an interview with Sports Illustrated. Collins continued to work out despite no NBA teams signing him to a contract, and his twin brother, Jarron Collins, said he was in the best shape of his life.
Now, he'll make a return to the NBA on a team that needs frontcourt depth and will be in uniform when the Nets visit the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday, according to a report from ESPN. Collins has averaged 3.6 points and 3.8 rebounds per game during his career. This will be his second stint with the Nets after starting his career with the franchise.
