Toronto appeared to have the edge throughout, shooting threes well, passing the ball and getting the edge on free throws. But the Wizards, fueled by John Wall and a breakout performance by Marcin Gortat on the offensive end of the floor, kept Washington tight. The end of regulation came when Toronto's Kyle Lowry went for a layup with time expiring and missed, tweaking his ankle in the process.
The hobbled Lowry and the Raptors battled back-and-forth with the Wizards, with both teams making use of the free throw line by penetrating deep into the defense. The first overtime ended as John Wall made a driving layup with .23 seconds left. The second overtime ended with DeMar DeRozan lost his defender on a shifty move to the baseline to tie, and Bradley Beal's game-winning layup was waved off a few seconds later.
Eventually, the Wizards would close the game out to bring home a win, 134-129.
John Wall led Washington with 31 points on 12-of-20 shooting, adding nine assists, three steals and three rebounds. Marcin Gortat added 31 points and 12 rebounds. Bradley Beal finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
For the Raptors, DeMar DeRozan had 34 points on 11-of-23 shooting including six assists, four rebounds and two steals. He got to the line 14 times and made 12. Amir Johnson finished with 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting, adding nine rebounds.
The loss moves the Raptors to 32-26 on the season, good enough for third in the Eastern Conference. Washington keeps climbing in the playoff race, with the win taking them to 30-28 on the season. They currently stand at fifth in the East.
