Luol Deng likely to leave Cleveland in free agency, per report

The Cavaliers wingman is likely to hit free agency after this season in Cleveland.

David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

Chris Grant swung for the fences before he was fired as General Manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers, turning center Andrew Bynum into Chicago's longest-tenured player in Luol Deng in January. Now, with Grant gone and things spiraling out of control in Cleveland, it appears unlikely that Deng will remain a Cav, according to a report from ESPN's Marc Stein.

More Cavaliers: Fear the Sword

Since being traded to Cleveland, Deng's per36 production in scoring, assists and rebounding are all down. Adding the former Bulls star hasn't seemed to have much effect. The Cavs are still at the bottom of the Eastern Conference and until Friday's win against the Washington Wizards, were on a six-game losing streak.

Deng will join a loaded 2014 free agency class and will demand a hefty salary. He currently makes $14.2 million and any team in need of consistent scoring and elite defense will be giving him a look. Deng will be 29 by the time he can sign with another team, which might give some GMs pause.

The forward is averaging 17.6 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per-game this season while shooting 44 percent from the field.
