The Detroit Pistons have fired head coach Maurice Cheeks, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. The Pistons are a half-game out of the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference and are currently on a two-game winning streak, but they expected more after making major roster moves through the summer. Cheeks coached Detroit to a 21-29 record.
Detroit Pistons fire Maurice Cheeks, according to report
Maurice Cheeks has been fired just months after being hired by the Pistons.

The Pistons hired Cheeks last summer, but they dismissed him prior to All-Star Weekend. It's unclear what triggered the move, though Pistons owner Tom Gores is pushing for changes. Gores is unhappy with the team having another disappointing season. Detroit signed free agent swingman Josh Smith and acquired point guard Brandon Jennings via a sign-and-trade, but the roster moves have not paid off immediately.
The team has not announced an interim head coach, though assistant coach John Loyer is expected to be the frontrunner for the position, according to Wojnarowski. Detroit will move on to their fourth head coach in five seasons.
