The Detroit Pistons are not expected to conduct a coaching search after firing Maurice Cheeks and will instead promote assistant coach John Loyer to head coach for the remainder of the season, reports Adrian Wojnarwoski of Yahoo Sports. The team fired Cheeks after a 21-29 start, 50 games after hiring him to replace Lawrence Frank.
Detroit Pistons promoting John Loyer to head coach for remainder of season, according to report
The Pistons are expected to promote John Loyer to head coach for the remainder of the season.

Loyer served as an assistant with the Portland Trail Blazers for two years, Philadelphia 76ers for four years and the Brooklyn Nets for two years prior to joining Frank's staff with the Pistons. He also coached at the collegiate level for 12 years.
The team has made an official announcement on Cheeks' firing but has not announced Loyer serving as the interim coach. Reports suggested that the team would be interested in discussing the coaching vacancy with former Memphis Grizzlies head coach Lionel Hollins, though it seems they will keep the process in-house. Hollins was offered an assistant position under Cheeks last summer but declined the offer.
