Kyrie Irving injury: Cavaliers star leaves game with left biceps issue

Irving will not return to the Cavs’ game against the Clippers on Sunday night due to the injury.

Cleveland Cavaliers star point guard Kyrie Irving left the Cavs' game against the Los Angeles Clippers with a left biceps injury and will not return, the team announced on Sunday night.

Irving suffered the injury early in the second quarter. Prior to leaving the game, the point guard missed all five of his shot attempts, but he did have four rebounds and two assists.

If Irving is out for any length of time, it would deal a tough blow to the Cavs' playoff chances, which are already flickering as it is. Cleveland was four games behind the Atlanta Hawks heading into play on Sunday, and things currently aren't looking good against Los Angeles.

Irving dealt with injury problems in each of his first two NBA seasons, and he also missed most of his one season at Duke. Another injury would seem almost fitting in a season that has proved tumultuous for Irving.

With playoff expectations heading into the year, Irving’s play -- and, specifically his shooting -- has regressed this season. The 21-year-old entered Sunday shooting 43.0 percent overall and 36.7 percent on threes, both substantial drops from last season. There have also been reports of issues in the Cavs’ locker room, with questions about Irving’s willingness to stay in Cleveland for the long haul.
