Sixers find a new way to tank, keep streak alive vs. Knicks
Philadelphia had a chance to win the game in the final seconds on Friday night.
Some call it rebuilding. Some call it tanking. Whatever the Philadelphia 76ers were doing on Friday night, it was not pretty. With a chance to end the game on a Thaddeus Young three-pointer, the Sixers had an unforced turnover indicative of the kind of season they’ve been having in the City of Brotherly Love.
With the New York Knicks up, 92-90, with just 13.6 seconds left in the game, Philadelphia ran guard James Anderson out to the sideline to receive the ball on the inbounds pass. Guarded by J.R. Smith, Anderson gave a hesitation move and drove left. As Carmelo Anthony sagged to help out on the drive, Young popped to the left corner to receive a pass for an unguarded three-pointer.
Instead, Anderson passed in the direction of a man standing in the corner near the Knicks’ bench. The ball dribbled helplessly out of bounds, and the reaction from the Sixers bench said it all.
Philadelphia kept their tank game strong by flubbing their possible 16th win on the season. The loss is their 23rd-straight on the year, a franchise record. They stand at 15-54, and are surprisingly still two games above the Milwaukee Bucks for the worst record in the NBA.
