Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has his opinions, and his opinion on the future success of the NFL is a mighty cautious one. Cuban told the Dallas Morning News that he believes the NFL is 10 years from imploding because of over-saturation in the TV market.

The owner of the Dallas Mavericks sees the NFL’s attempt to take over TV ratings as an idea that will ultimately fail.
“When pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered,” Cuban said. “And they’re getting hoggy. When you try to take it too far, people turn the other way. I’m just telling you, when you got a good thing and you get greedy, it always, always, always, always, always turns against you.”
Cuban is referring to the NFL’s expanding national TV schedule that first began with a Thursday night game -- the games formerly on NFL Network will be broadcast nationally by CBS -- but is stepping even further away from the traditional Sunday-heavy docket. In addition to the well-received Sunday night and Monday night games, the league will play a duo of Saturday games at the end of the 2014 season and, rumor has it, could be looking into playing regular Wednesday night games.

The move away from a set schedule every week will be more of a burden to viewers, who could usually count on their teams playing every Sunday, Cuban said.
“They’re trying to take over every night of TV,” he said. “And initially, it’ll be the biggest rating thing there is. Then, if they get Saturday, now they’re impacting college. And then if they go to Wednesday, at some point, people get sick of it.”
Cuban may not have any hard evidence to back his opinion, but it does break one of his guiding principles. Remember, when pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered.
