Patrick Beverley injury: Rockets lose guard to torn meniscus

Patrick Beverley injured his knee on Thursday against the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Houston Rockets will be without point guard Patrick Beverley for an uncertain amount of time after an MRI revealed Friday that he had suffered a torn meniscus in his knee, reports Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski. Beverley will received a second opinion of the injury suffered on Thursday to determine if he can rehab and recover to return during the playoffs.

Beverley suffered the injury early in the second quarter of the Rockets' 120-98 win against the Philadelphia 76ers -- the loss for the Sixers tied the NBA record for most consecutive losses at 26 straight.

He averaged 9.9 points and 2.7 assists per game this season, but his value was in his defensive disruption as Houston's starting point guard. Coach Kevin McHale will move forward with backup Jeremy Lin likely sliding into the starting spot.

Lin is averaging 12.4 points and 4.2 assists this season and has started in 25 games. The Rockets' point guard depth behind Lin took a hit when the team traded third point guard Aaron Brooks to the Denver Nuggets for swingman Jordan Hamilton before the February trade deadline, but rookie Isaiah Canaan will likely receive the backup minutes.

Canaan played a career-high 14 minutes against the 76ers.
