Chris Smith has been released by the New York Knicks' D-League affiliate, the Erie Bayhawks, the team announced on Tuesday. Smith was averaging 8.1 points per game on 35 percent shooting through 23 games with the Bayhawks.

Chris Smith has been waived again this season, this time by the Knicks’ D-league affiliate.

Smith made the Knicks' 15-man roster to open the season but was waived in December to make room for Jeremy Tyler. New York head coach Mike Woodson admitted that Chris being J.R. Smith's brother was one of the reasons he made the final cut, which led to the NBA investigating if the Knicks violated league policy when they signed both brothers last summer. The league ruled that the two were not signed with the franchise as a package deal, however.

Chris Smith appeared in two games for a total of two minutes during the Knicks’ regular season. The team did not waive him before Oct. 29, making his $490,180 salary for the 2013-2014 season fully guaranteed.
