Pau Gasol: ‘If there’s anything or anyone who could make me stay it’s Kobe Bryant’

Lakers big man Pau Gasol discussed his future on his blog.

Los Angeles Lakers big man Pau Gasol's future with the franchise is uncertain. He'll be an unrestricted free agent in July, and he's had a bit of a rocky relationship with the Lakers for the past couple of years. They agreed to trade him in a deal for Chris Paul in December of 2011, and he's been on and off the trading block ever since. The Lakers had their worst season since 1958 this year with Kobe Bryant sidelined for most of it, and Gasol will most likely have a better chance to win elsewhere. He blogged about what's next on his personal site:

I've been in similar situations for the last two years, with one foot inside and the other outside. I'm not quite sure where I am at the moment. The good thing is that I'm now the master of my own destiny. It's me that makes the choices, and that's a good situation to be in.

Re-signing for the Lakers is a possibility, but I'm not sure whether to say it's a remote one. If there's anything or anyone who could make me stay it's Kobe Bryant. I'd stay for him, but there'd have to be significant changes. I've said it many times: I want to be in a team that has a solid chance to win another [championship] and where I can be an important factor in the game.

First of all, it’s pretty great that Pau is a blogger. Second, Gasol goes on to state that the length of the contract and the roster makeup of the team will influence how he looks at an offer more than just money.

After the way he’s been treated in Los Angeles, it’d make sense that he wants to go somewhere he knows he’s wanted. After this disappointing season, it’d make sense that he wants to go to a contender. He and Bryant are likely on similar pages when it comes to what they want the Lakers front office to do this offseason.
