President Barack Obama added his voice on Sunday to the chorus denouncing Donald Sterling for racist comments that the Clippers owner allegedly made.

During a visit to Malaysia, the P.O.T.U.S. commented on the Clippers’ owner’s latest incident.

During a news conference in Malaysia, President Obama referred to Sterling’s “incredibly offensive racist comments” and tied it to larger issues in America.
Obama went on to put Sterling’s comments in a broader context, arguing that “the United States continues to wrestle with the legacy of race and slavery and segregation.”
“We’ve made enormous strides,” the President said, “but you’re going to continue to see this percolate up every so often. And I think that we just have to be clear and steady in denouncing it, teaching our children differently, but also remaining hopeful that part of why statements like this stand out some much is because there has been this shift in how we view ourselves.”
President Obama also expressed faith in Adam Silver and the NBA to deal with the situation appropriately.
