The Phoenix Suns have added a wing scorer to run with Goran Dragic and Eric Bledsoe in T.J. Warren
Warren, 20, averaged 24.9 points per game leading N.C. State last year, operating primarily in the midrange and paint area. He’s got an NBA-ready body already, at 6’8, 220 pounds, and the way he played in his two years at N.C. State figures to translate well, at least offensively, to the next level.
Unfortunately, while a great interior and midrange scorer, Warren is without a reliable three-point shot, shooting 26.7 percent from the college arc last year in 3.3 attempts per game. He was asked to shoulder a mammoth offensive load for the Wolfpack last year, and despite that, he only averaged 2.4 turnovers per game.
With the Suns, one of the league’s most exciting teams last year, Warren could come in and start immediately at small forward, or he could come off the bench behind Gerald Green or P.J. Tucker, if he re-signs. If Warren starts, teamed up with Goran Dragic, Eric Bledsoe, Marcus and Markieff Morris and Channing Frye, that makes one of the most offensively potent young teams in the league.
