Memphis Grizzlies forward James Johnson was arrested for domestic assault early Saturday morning when he allegedly struck his wife with an open hand and choked her. The Fox affiliate station in Memphis has a report on the details of the situation:

She also told officers the NBA player punched a hole in their bathroom door, which is where she was waiting while holding their child. Officers say the victim gave the baby to her mother and Johnson then pushed that woman and took the baby before running away from the scene.
Johnson was signed out of the D-League by the Grizzlies in Dec. 2013, and he quickly became one of the team’s better defenders off the bench. The 6’9, 248-pound forward appeared in 52 games on the season, averaging 7.4 points and 3.2 rebounds for Memphis. He appeared in only three playoff games during the Grizzlies’ first-round loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Johnson starred at Wake Forest in college, where he became the No. 16 pick in the 2009 draft by the Chicago Bulls after his sophomore year. Johnson bounced around the NBA and D-League after parting with Chicago. He started a career-high 40 games for the Toronto Raptors in 2011-12, averaging 9.1 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
Johnson will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
